So you’ve decided to remodel the bathroom! One of your first decisions is going to be one of the hardest. Namely, what to upgrade and what to keep! We’ve got some advice, via the Record Online, to help you make good choices!
Take out the trash!
Start with the easy stuff – your personal items that are taking up space!
No matter how expensive that shampoo was or how good that aftershave smells, if you’re not going to use it, toss it. (Many shelters accept donations of unopened toiletries.) You may be amazed how much prime storage space this opens up.
You have to pack all those things and remove them from the bathroom for your renovation anyway. Don’t bring them back in!
Think about the throne!
For many people, if the toilet doesn’t wobble while you’re sitting on it and flushes when you’re done, then all is well. But newer toilets not only look better, they’re better for the planet. Older toilets can use up to seven gallons of water per flush, and still may not get the job done!
If you have to flush twice, you’re not saving much water. It may be toilet replacement time.
And while you’re upgrading, you can look into cool new features like a self-cleaning function!
Jettison the jets!
At one point – which has passed – jetted tubs were the thing.
Your home’s previous owner probably thought a jetted tub was the latest word in home spa luxury. For you, though, it seems like more of a pain in the neck — scrubbing the jets after every time you use it is a major hassle and you never feel they’re really clean.
Save yourself the scrubbing and the squeamishness by removing and replacing the whole thing.
