Can Color Bathing Change Your Mood?

We’ve talked before about the expansion of technology into the bathroom. It may have started with us carrying our smartphones in and out with us, but tech is now at home literally everywhere.

Even the toilet.

But LED mood lighting goes beyond the bowl and right into your shower as well. We’ve got the scoop via Well + Good.

One under-the-radar accessory that could take your bathing experience to the next level combines two buzzy elements—LED lighting and color therapy… which experts say could be emotionally therapeutic and potentially beneficial to your skin at the same time—without adding any additional steps to your shower routine.

It turns out that not only does LED lighting have beneficial physical effects (blue is an acne killer while red stimulates collagen production), the psychological influence of color can change your mood! So, which color should you be bathing in to get your desired results? Keep reading!

Yellow

Skip the coffee and have a yellow-hued shower, according to Reece. “It’s another good color to start the day off with as it helps to wake you up,” she says.

Much like the actual sun, yellow light can inspire cheerfulness and brighten your mood.

Blue

In contrast, blue is calming and restful.

“It will slow down your body and mind so if you are anxious or stressed, a blue shower could certainly assist.” However, she cautions, this color should be avoided if you’re feeling, well, blue.

Red

Red, says Al Muhaiteeba, is the color of unlimited vitality. “It’s a great wake-up call for when you have a high-intensity day ahead.”

While we usually associate red lights with “stop”, when you need to energize it’s the way to “go”.

Pink

By softening the red light to pink, you channel that energy towards love.

“It’s a great color to help cultivate self-love and also attract love into your life,” she explains, noting that it’s good for bolstering gratitude, too.

Orange

With it’s mix of yellow cheer and red vitality, orange is actually great for your sex drive!

“Orange would be great when you want to feel more love and increase your sexual stamina,” says Al Muhaiteeba.

Green

Post-workout, you might want to go green, says Reece. “This is the perfect color for helping to reducing tension,” she explains (mimicking the great outdoors, after all).

Green lighting is also conducive to relaxation and meditation.
